Early Easter

Because we are gone on Easter, I like to do a special meal before we leave.  We use our fancy dishes and cups and use cloth napkins.  We also dyed Easter eggs this year, which we haven't done in years.  Last night was a great success!  We will still do Easter baskets and hunt Easter eggs after we get home from Lads 2 Leaders so there's still something to look forward too...and it falls on April Fool's Day which is awesome.....more to come about that soon!

Spring Break Part 2: Camping with Friends

After all the camping, somehow I got talked into more camping...actually what happened was, I told Shawn that I'd go camping on one condition...I didn't have to plan, prep, or make any of the food we were going to eat.  He agreed so away we went!  At least this time it was in the pop up and only for one night!   We headed to our friends land and I think this is the 3rd year we've done this!  It was so wonderful to just get away together and end our spring break in such a fun positive way!

Spring Break Part 1: The Davis Mountains

The girls and I took a big ol' roadtrip with out Girl Scout Troop to the Davis Mountains in west Texas!  We left on Saturday and returned on Wednesday....and it took me at least 3 more days to recover!  If only I had had a better sleeping mat.....next time!  Either way, we had such an absolute wonderful cold exhausting time!  Here are a few pics from our adventures!

First stop was Balmorhea...no swimming this time.

After 8ish long hours on the road, we turned onto the road that would lead us to our camp, sweet camp.

We found a perfect little spot nestled into the mountains.

On day 2, the girls and I and one of the parents, headed to church in Fort Davis.  It was as sweet little congregation and I'm glad we went! 

On Monday, we were up early and headed out for a big day!  We hiked at the Davis Mountains State Park.

Then we headed into town for "real" food!  The girls (and adults were pretty excited!)

We also got to tour Fort Davis itself.  This is something I definitely want to go back and visit when we have more time!

We ended the night at the McDonald Observatory.  It was partly cloudy so there wasn't much we could see but it was still a neat experience.

On our last full day there, we did lots of hiking.  We say the "needle" and also a gorgeous hidden waterfall.  

When we got back to camp, we had a special treat for the girls: pedicures and their favorite drink!

 My view much of the time.  What a great time we had...but I was quite weary from sleeping on the ground.

As we left at sunrise on our last morning, we had the most glorious sight to behold.  Truly, one of the best sunrises I've ever seen!  Thank you God!

Cutest Suess Around

The 2nd graders had a Seussical Musical and Levi had the perfect outfit already at home.  He took a little convincing to wear it because he was afraid that he'd be the only one, but once we arrived, all fears were put aside.  Cute to watch him and all the 2nd graders sing their hearts out...and the whole thing was less than 30 minutes long so BONUS!

Day Tripper

As usual, here we are in front of the sign!  I think it's possible that Elle thought it was a little too bright.  Anyway, I'm not sure how we picked this place, but, here's my wrap up.  I'm glad our family got to get away for the day, we had fun fishing for a little while, we took a nice hike, but we don't ever feel the need to go back here again.  Meh.  The super exciting part thought was that we ended up eating dinner at Royer's in Round Top and that was SUPER DELICIOUS!  

 At one point, all the kids caught a fish at the same time!  Shawn was the official worm baiter and I was the fisher taker. lol

Business Fair, take 2

Fifth graders at the kids school do a business fair.  Elle did great at hers and now it was time for Ava.  She decided to make fabric washi tape.  She put 5 pieces in each package and sold them for $1.25 each, I think.  Nana and Poppy surprised her while she was doing the business fair and showed up and Ava even suckered them into buying one of her last packages.  :)

Almost Camping

We planned and reserved a site at McKinney Falls State Park in February.  We haven't camped there since Ava was about 2 so we were excited to go back in the pop up.  But, as usual, the weather had other plans.  There was a super high chance of rain overnight and taking down a pop up in the rain is the opposite of a good time.  Plus, we'd have to reset it up at home and let it dry and neither of us wanted to do that either.  So, we headed out there to spend the day and come home that night.  It was kind of a win/win in my mind.  We hung out with our friends the Corley's from church which made our kids whine way less and have way more fun.  Oh and that rain....it held off till about 11 am the next day.  Would have poured if we had set up the pop up!
