A few weeks ago, Shawn and I were trying to come up with a wonderful night of Christmas Light watching to do with our kids. We were both on Facebook and a friend posted a picture of San Antonio's Riverwalk all lit up and without even knowing it, we both saw the picture and starting making plans in our head! I didn't tell Shawn I was thinking it, because I thought he'd shoot it down immediately...but boy was I surprised and excited when he brought it up to me! We started sneaking around making plans, unbeknownst to the kids! On Thursday, we picked them up an hour early from school, with the car completely packed and told them we were headed out of town. They were super excited! Once we got to San Antonio the excitement level shot through the roof. They had almost no idea what was planned, they just knew it was going to be fun.
Here we are just after getting to our hotel and heading out the back door to the Riverwalk.
We went and ate and then headed to do a riverboat tour. They were beside themselves with excitement! Elle and Ava loved the tour. Levi sort of liked it, but kept getting very aggravated with me that I held onto him as he tried to lean half of his body over the side of the boat.
Then we headed back to the lobby of our hotel, which by the way, we LOVED! If you go to San Antonio you should try to stay at
Hotel Contessa!
After figuring out where the closest Starbucks was, we walked that way and enjoyed more beautiful scenery.
The next morning, we got up and watched TV for a while, and then headed downstairs for free breakfast! This is a window that was just a few feet from the door to our room...what a great view of the Riverwalk!
After breakfast, we headed to the very top of the hotel which had a heated pool and hot tub and a gorgeous 270 degree view of the city! It was so cool!
Here we are in the glass elevators headed down 12 floors to breakfast. The kids loved riding the elevator up and down the 12 floors!
After breakfast, it was off to see the Alamo. This was what Elle was most excited about because she remembered learning about it in school!
There was a HUGE Texas Christmas tree in front of the Alamo that we were all pretty impressed with.
I'm pretty sure one of the most fun things for the kids to do at the Alamo was feed the fish Cheerios.
They found this "bench" and turned it into a canoe. They went and found sticks and paddled around for a while. :)
And this is the only real picture Shawn and I got of us together on this trip!
We only went for one night and were home about 24 hours after we left...which truthfully was perfect. On the way home we stopped at Buc-ee's, a ridiculously huge gas station that's almost a tourist stop it's so big, and also went to Cabela's which the kids LOVED! What a great trip it was!
