Last Thursday, we had our first official "Bad Weather" day for the 2014-2015 school year. Unfortunately as is the custom in the neck of the woods, "bad weather" usually means ice on the BBQ pit and the metal frame of the trampoline while the actual ground is as dry as a bone. But, we'll take it! At least we were told in plenty of time to "prepare" and by prepare I go to Target after worship on Wednesday night and stock up on junk. See picture below.
So here's how we managed with three on-the-verge-of-boredom kids on our too-cold-to-be-outside-but-not-cold-enough-for-snow-or-ice bad weather day!
The girls MUST go out every time there is sleet, ice or snow and jump on the trampoline. It has turned into a tradition for them. See the sunshine? It's so ironic that when we finally missed school for the weather, the sun actually came out!
Shawn worked with them to draw self portraits. We took their picture, printed it out and then had them copy it. I love the finished products!
We read many library books.
The girls worked on 2 badges for Girl Scouts. This one is about the Constitution. One of the things they needed to do was come up with a skit about some aspect of the Constitution so they were Ben Franklin and George Washington working together to draft the wording. Ava wore Shawn's glasses and they both would talk quietly, write a little bit on the paper and then wad it up and throw it over their shoulder before starting again. By the fourth try, they liked what they had drafted and signed it!
We also finally got the courage to break out a game Ava got for Christmas called Rummikub. I knew it was going to be somewhat hard for them...and it was. Elle was the only one that swore never to play this game again. We weren't surprised. Shawn and I loved it and think it would be fun to play with grown ups sometime soon!
So we made it through the "horrible" bad weather day just in time to send them back to school on Friday! I've heard that we'll have to make this day up on the Friday before Easter which is a win-win for us because we'll be out of town!
